General information
The following information provides a simple overview of what happens to your personal data when you visit the Facebook and Instagram pages. The Facebook and Instagram services are a product provided by Meta Platforms Ireland Limited (hereinafter referred to as “Meta”).
Personal data is any data that can be used to identify you personally.
When you visit my Facebook and/or Instagram page, which I use to draw attention to myself and my services, certain information about you is processed.
Facebook and Instagram share infrastructure, systems and technology with other meta-companies (these include WhatsApp and Oculus) to provide a certain uniformity across all the meta-companies’ products you use. For these purposes, Facebook & Instagram also process information about you across meta-companies to the extent permitted by applicable law and in accordance with their terms of use and policies. The sole controller for this processing of personal data is Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd.
Facebook & Instagram share information worldwide, both internally between the Meta companies and externally with their partners and with those with whom the user connects and shares around the world. According to Meta, these data transfers are necessary to provide the services set out in the Facebook Terms of Use and Instagram Terms of Use and to operate globally and provide the User with their products.

Page Insights
Meta provides me with statistics and insights for my Facebook and Instagram page in anonymized form, which help me gain insights into the types of actions people take on my page (so-called “page insights”). These Page Insights are created on the basis of certain information about people who have visited my page.
This processing of personal data is carried out by Meta and myself as joint controllers.

This agreement was provided in this form by Facebook Ireland Ltd (now renamed Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd) and I, as the operator of a Facebook business page or Instagram page, accept it by using Facebook or Instagram. I cannot assess whether this agreement meets the requirements of Art. 26 GDPR.
Information about my Facebook page and Instagram page
I use these pages to draw attention to my services on the one hand and to interact with you as a visitor and user of this Facebook page or Instagram page on the other (establishing and maintaining contact, acquisition).
Legal basis:
The operation of this Facebook/Instagram page and the processing of users’ personal data is based on my legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f. GDPR. GDPR to draw attention to me and my services by means of modern marketing opportunities and to offer (potential) customers and other interested parties a further opportunity to contact me.
(Consent pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. b) GDPR for the processing of personal data can technically only be obtained by Facebook or Instagram. To my knowledge, Facebook and Instagram do not currently offer such a consent option).
Processing of personal data by Facebook
In its judgment of June 5, 2018, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled that the operator of a Facebook page is jointly responsible with Facebook for the processing of personal data. Following the change of name from Facebook Ireland Limited to Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, this ruling applies to Meta. As Instagram is operated by Meta, the ruling can be extended to Instagram.
I am aware that Meta processes users’ data for the following purposes:
– Provision, personalization and improvement of its products
– Provision of measurements, analyses and other company services
– Provision of personalized advertising
– Promoting protection, integrity and security
– Communication with users
– Research and innovation for social purposes
Meta uses cookies to store and further process this information, which are stored on the user’s various end devices. If the user has a Facebook or Instagram profile and is logged in to it, the information is also stored and analyzed across devices.
Meta shares information worldwide, both internally between Meta companies and externally with their partners as well as with accounts with which the user connects around the world and with which the user shares something. According to Meta, these data transfers are necessary to provide the services set out in the Facebook Terms of Use and Instagram Terms of Use and to operate globally and provide the User with their products.
To ensure that personal data from the European Union is adequately protected when transferred outside the EU, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires that such transfers are made using certain legal instruments:
Meta uses standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
Meta has active certification in accordance with the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF). The DPF is an agreement between the European Union and the USA, which is intended to ensure compliance with European data protection standards for data processing in the USA. Companies in the USA can undertake to comply with these data protection standards and can obtain certification. The certificate can be viewed in the Data Privacy Framework list.

Statistical data
For pages, Meta provides me as the page operator with statistics and insights that help me gain knowledge about the types of actions people take on my pages (“Page Insights”).
Page Insights are summarized statistics that are generated based on certain events that are logged by Meta servers when people interact with pages and the content associated with them. Meta provides these to me. I have no influence on the creation and scope of this data processing and I cannot control it.
The following information is provided to me by Facebook or Instagram:
– You are viewing a page, post, video, story or other content associated with my site
– You react to a story
– You subscribe or unsubscribe to my page
– You mark a page with “Like” or remove the mark
– You recommend my page in a post or comment
– You comment on a page post, share it or react to it
– You click on a button on my page (e.g. website button).
– You view an event of mine, react to an event or click on a link for an event ticket
– You start a Messenger conversation with me
– You preview page content by hovering your mouse over a link to my page, the name or profile picture of my page
– You look at items in my store or click on them
I also see
– Place and time of your action
– Country/city (estimated from the IP address or, for logged-in users, from the user profile)
– Language code (from the HTTP header of the browser and/or the language setting)
– Age/gender group (from the user profile, only for logged-in users)
– Previously visited website (from the HTTP header of the browser)
– Whether the action was performed on a computer or on a mobile device (from the browser user agent or from app attributes)
– Facebook or Instagram user ID (only for logged-in users)

I use this information to adapt my content to the interests of my users by increasing the use of preferred formats, adapting the time of my post publications to the usage times of my users in order to increase my reach, etc.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, user rights (so-called data subject rights) have been strengthened:
You have a right to free information about your personal data stored by Meta and, if applicable, a right to rectification, restriction of processing or erasure of this data. To do this, please contact Facebook, Instagram (or Meta) directly.
You also have the right to complain to the data protection supervisory authority about the processing of your personal data by Meta. Facebook and I have agreed that the Irish Data Protection Commission is the lead supervisory authority overseeing the processing for Page Insights. You always have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission (see www.dataprotection.ie) or any other supervisory authority.
If requests for information are made to me as a page operator, I am obliged under the supplementary agreement with Facebook (Meta) to forward these requests to Meta within 7 days, regardless of whether they are requests for information from private individuals or authorities (see Controller Addendum
